Stade, a regional urban centre between Hamburg and the mouth of the Elbe, has numerous educational, cultural, sport and leisure facilities. All of its schools are in the town. In addition to the total of 24 creches and kindergardens, there are youth centres, a youth hostel, three old people's day centres, convalescent homes, diverse advice centres, and German Red Cross the workshop for the disabled.
