The new city quarter, Ottenbeck

At the end of 1994, the last soldiers left the Von Goeben barracks. This marked a new chapter for the city: the development of the approx. 85 ha barracks into the new city quarter of Ottenbeck. Just adjacent to it is the 240 ha former local recreation grounds as well as a landing space for air traffic.
A new city quarter for living and working is progressing on the basis of an urban development concept. When construction is completed, around 2,000 people are expected to live in a green city quarter with around 800 jobs.

Marketing activities will be untertaken in co-operation with the Bundesvermögensamt Soltau, the owner of the areas. Over 20 million Euros are being invested in infrastructure measures.

What will feature in Ottenbeck:

Around 300 double and single family houses on around 400 to 1000 m2 lots, completely available and inexpensive (already 120 lots have been developed).
An ecological residential project with currently 12 units Around 200 inexpensive flats for rent or purchase in building renovated into modern multiple family houses.
Public and private infrastructure facilities such as Kindergardens, elementary schools, sports facilities, shops, and service providers.
A commercial district with 24 ha of available area which is separate from the residential area, yet accessible. Interested parties can choose among: lots with a few hundred square meters up to 1.5 ha units
The Waldorf school has already been opened
The renovation of the existing, commercially usable buildings and halls has also been completed; over 60 businesses and organizations work here today The Stade business founders centre at Carl-Goerdeler-Weg 8 has been open since February of 2003.
