Since the fall of the iron curtain between East and West, between the states of the former Warsaw Pact and the states of NATO in 1989, Europe has no longer been a prospective Utopia, but rather has become a real promise for the future. City partnerships have contributed to providing this chance to the states and people in Europe. First of all, with their contribution to the reconciliation in Western Europe. Archenemies became friends and allies. And the communal bridging between East and West also contributed to the wearing away of the iron curtain, until it finally fell.
The City of Stade also made an effort to actively participate in this process and has therefore become partners with other cities.
