The regional fire department of Stade is directed by the municipal fire chief, Klaus Ney. In his duties he works together with the local fire chiefs. The local fire chiefs head the local fire departments and act as contact partners.
The Stade auxiliary fire department has 290 active members. There are also youth departments with 96 girls and boys and an honorary senior department with 89 members. Every local fire department has a youth department.
Work in the fire department is voluntary. This means that every firewoman and fireman has an active career. The fire fighters are called to work from the department or from home.
The number of fires fought in the City of Stade has in recent years amounted to between 700 and 800 per year. Apart from fighting fires, the fire department provides rescue and aid services, which in terms of numbers, are much more frequent than the fires themselves. Fire departments despatches take care of everything from rubbish bin fires to conflagrations, from residual oil to traffic accidents with trapped persons. But the fire department is equipped for special despatches; Stade’s local fire department has a boat group ready for rescuing people on the Elbe and its tributaries as well as a diving group which is active in several regions.
The local fire departments of the Stade auxiliary fire department offer training for prospective fire fighters on the first and third Mondays of every month.
