Why a Festival of Cultures?

  • no knowledge of the number of cultures/nationalities in town
  • limited exchange of ideas concerning cultural experiences/ habits/ ways of life
  • up to now low esteem or appreciation
  • hardly any exchange as to common ground and little knowledge of the respective mentality, resulting in prejudices: e.g. typically German, typically …
  • cultures/nationalities live side by side in isolation
  • up to now, lack of intercultural dialogue within the entire town

  • Objectives of the Festival of Cultures and Target Groups

    Top Target: OPEN THE GATEWAY TO OTHER CULTURES  
      as a contribution to integration  

    1. To provide knowledge about the diversity of cultures living in Stade and promote a better acceptance and understanding among nations.

    2. To create a community spirit: We are from different cultures, and we are citizens of the same town Dialogue, networking, building up network

    3. To raise levels of awareness and understanding about people from different cultures and their problems.

    4. To fight against discrimination/stigmatization and highlight the vulnerability of people who do not speak the same language.

    Target Groups

  • German and international citizens, ideally from three generations
  • Representatives of as many as possible of the existing cultures in Stade
  • Members of clubs and societies, institutions (police, fire brigade, foreigners authority etc.)
  • People passing by in town
  • Enterprises and tradespeople around the town hall
  • Politicians

    16.00 hours Inauguration (town hall, Ratskeller square) Andreas Rieckhof, Mayor of the City of Stade, Honey Deihimi, Commissioner for Integration of Lower Saxony; verbal contributions, music and dance from different cultures and activities to participate in
    foll. 17.00 -18.00 hours Invitation to join the longest table of cultures in Stade around the town hall: businesses, clubs and societies, institutions and private individuals from a variety of cultures extend an invitation to you
    18.00 - 18.30 hours Afropean Express, with singer Mariama, Don Abi and Adé Bantu; soul, blues and hip hop (open air stage)

    18.30 - 19.30 hours Ella!
    Greek dances to join in with. Lukas Lymperopoulos (Königsmarcksaal, town hall, 1st floor)
    19.00 hours Opening of the International Buffet from over 30 nations (town hall, Ratssaal, 1st floor)
    19.30 hours Soul e Samba, Stade (town hall)

      An event organized by the City of Stade in cooperation with organizations, clubs and societies, institutions and citizens from a variety of cultures.

    Venues:

    - Town hall
    - Stage in the Ratskeller square
    - Church of St. Cosmae (games without frontiers)
    - Information stands (exhibition and presentations, Historical Town Hall and New Town Hall )
    - Workshops, information, discussions, film (Historical Town Hall)
    - Buffet from over 30 nations (Ratssaal, Historical Town Hall, 1st floor)
    - International café (Senatorenstube, Historical Town Hall, ground floor)
    - Music: open air stage and Königsmarcksaal, Historical Town Hall
    - Child care (Historical Town Hall, room 9, ground floor)
     
    Admission to all events is free. In bad weather, all stage performances will take place in Königsmarcksaal, Historical Town Hall.
